Lubbock Housing Authority Section 8 Waiting List Lottery
Why Conduct a Lottery?
The demand for vouchers in our service are far exceeds the available vouchers. Therefore, the Lubbock Housing Authority utilizes a random number lottery system to select households for inclusion on the Section 8 Waiting List. Those wishing to enter the lottery will have one month to enter. This will allow a greater number of households to have a chance to receive housing assistance than in recent Waiting List openings. This longer opening period will also afford elderly and disabled persons an increased opportunity to compete for vouchers.
General Lottery Information
- LHA will accept lottery entry cards from November 2-30, 2009. This period is the open entry period. The purpose of receiving these entry cards is for the LHA to create a pool from which a Section 8 Waiting List lottery drawing will be conducted.
- Entering the lottery does not guarantee placement on the Section 8 Waiting List.
- The LHA will select sufficient applicants to augment the existing Section 8 Waiting List to an anticipated service number adequate for 12-18 months.
- The LHA will use a computerized random lottery selection process to establish the placement of the required number of households on the Section 8 Waiting List. The remainder of the current entry cards will remain active in the lottery pool through October 31, 2010.
- Lottery cards will have a number assigned and will be recorded in the lottery pool when received in the LHA Central Office.
- The computerized random selection process will be conducted on December 3, 2009, and results will be posted at the LHA Central Office on December 4, 2009.
- Lottery entrants will be notified if their name is drawn and placed on the Section 8 Waiting List.
- If additional applicants are needed for the Section 8 Waiting List prior to October 30, 2010,they will be drawn from the current lottery pool.
- On October 31, 2010, the existing lottery pool will be purged and all unselected lottery cards will be discarded.
- All previous entrants who have not been notified that they have been selected for the Section 8 Waiting List must reapply during the next open application (November, 2010) period in order to be considered for placement on the waiting list during the 2011 calendar year.
- All entrants who have been placed on the Section 8 Waiting List will remain on the Section 8 Waiting List for the usual qualification process.
